| Tothian,
I hope so. Something I've noticed is that a lot of people in this Community get stressed out, and don't seem to be handling it quite well. So, I want to help them learn to better handle stress, so that they can be better prepared for other things they have to worry about. |

| 20 minutes of meditation can help, especially if you do it on a daily basis. Yoga is another way of de-stressing.
I find that going on long hikes helps me unwind. I plug myself into my ipod and think about things, work my ass off....

| Stress will take anyone by surprise. It is a very underestimated evil that hasn't gotten the attention it should. But that's because it is also is a very abused term, that a lot of people throw around.
Doctors will tell you that it's not healthy to drink 7 beers in a row. But the same doctors will also tell you that it's healthy to drink a beer a day. (Or better, a glass of red-wine). This is because it's healthy to unwind and relax. And too few of us does that.
Exercise also helps, but that's another mechanism. So if you do both: Exercise + relax, then you'll be fine.
Meditation is often brought up. I'd like to add that meditation can be many things. It can be as simple as just watch a movie that makes you relax. Meditation doesn't per definition require you to sit on the floor and making humming noises.

Meditation doesn't per definition require you to sit on the floor and making humming noises. Meditation doesn't require the use of sounds. What you're referring to is the act of attempting ascension through sound in an effort to raise personal vibrations - it often allows for better brain activity. Meditation, in general terms, is the act of being still physically and attempting to still the mind, allowing the spirit to relax and energize. This is quite difficult and leads to people starting out by focusing on their breathing or listening to nature sounds.

| "Meditation doesn't require the use of sounds"
That's what I'm saying. We agree.
"The act of being still physically and attempting to still the mind"
It is that part I'm saying can be done with watching a movie too. Obviously not any movie, but maybe some relaxing scifi show you like. That too is called meditation by socalled experts, at least on a radio program I heard not long ago.
Being completely still in mind is not peaceful for all people.

| You're missing the point though. Meditation isn't done with that much stimulation. You cant meditate and watch tv at the same time.

| I don't believe I am missing the point. I just noticed that you were focusing on the religions-like form of meditation (which you confirm by linking to a description of the Buddhist variation), and therefor I just want to add, that the term meditation nowadays refers to a broad variety of different practices (just like the term "sports" does), and shortly described any such practice simply includes techniques designed to promote relaxation. That's it. And any technique to promote relaxation is not limited to any specific procedure. Meditation is not complex, and not difficult, and you don't need to follow any specific recipe to do it.
There are only 3 main criterias essential to any meditation practice: The use of a defined technique, logic relaxation, and a self-induced state/mode. The defined technique can easily be "To watch a certain movie", maybe one you always watch when you need to relax. That does the trick easily for many people.
The problem with a discussion like this though, is that there aren't really any globally accepted definition of the word "meditation", exactly because it's such a broad term like "sport" is. So you can claim it to be and not be what you want, as long as it's within the above 3 criterias - and so can anyone else. ;-)
