Haha; Young Boots is the nickname Jonny Rodgers gave me after the Hanson Fire. I was working on the punching bag in the PT Shed and kicked it off the the ratfer and across the room, ever since he and a few others have called me Young Boots. When I'm a full grown adult it will be Mr. Boots, when I'm an old man it will be....Old Boots. XD

Only time I hear my nickname is when I'm either running into a burning building or trying to protect an entire city from the most destructive forces on this planet. It started feeling like a superhero name after a while. XD

Did you read that right? Running into burning buildings? Yup. Wildland Season is over. I just got a job with the Rural Deltana Volunteer Fire Department. There's a good chance of lots of vehicle accidents in my near future. Roads are shit here. On top of running into burning buildings the VFD also does community service activities, medical emergencies, search and rescue, and much more. It's not paying, but I don't care. I just like being back in the field. Smile

In other news, Urban Avenger and I have kind asorta patched things up. An RLSH invited me to the .Net site and he accepted so I guess something must have changed his mind about me. There still seems to be a lot of dickheads over there but not as bad as it used to be.

Aside from that I haven't been doing much. Helping on the farm, being with family, the works. Oh and trying to put an end to Child Cage Fighting in America. That's really pissed me off. Of course my ongoing mission to bring down the DIrector and the WWASPS still is a go, it's wrong to break your promises afterall, especially to yourself.

And....we're watching Man of Steel tonight. Smile

And that's about it in a nutshell.

Good to be back. Smile

Young Boots,

Good to have you back. One of us.

Also, I hate that other forum. Not the people, just the environment. And NOT because of Urban Avenger. He and I spoke recently and he seemed really cool and also some of the evil groups in this community were out to physically attack him - and a while ago he hated that forum too after they banned him on there for standing up to some mean woman who kept harassing him. So he must be doing something right. The reason I hate that other forum was because once it started to exist, it tried to make this community something it wasn't meant to be, something lamer, something good had seemed to die for a while. I couldn't quite place my finger on it for a while. And then the people who ran it at the time had deceived me and betrayed me and spoke all kinds of crap about me after I left, so I left and never went back - and been happier and more constructive because of it. But it is a very negative environment and I encourage real life superheroes to come here instead of there and learn from people with experience, and people here who will accept you as one of us not only for your good traits but even for your flaws and weird traits. There will always be disputes but the real friends are the ones who are quicker to make peace before accusations.

I respect people's freedom to say/do what they believe in. But that also means that I am going to do the same.

With that being said, I do hope you stay and don't leave again. I rather enjoy our long deep discussions, debates, and conversations. Besides, we have something that no other forum has. Pizza.

For what it's worth Tothian I've only heard of heroesnetwork not this other forum.

I got a friend nicknamed "Boots" he never elaborates.

@Tothian: I know how you feel about that site. There's a lot of new people. Still assholes there. Sometimes the worse off places are the places who can use the influence of a good person the most. Good to be back. Smile

@Secular Dragon: Thanks for the welcom; I don't believe we have met yet.

Young Boots,

Not a lot of the new people know the real history, or seem to care. They just believe lies. It isn't a physical place or a place on the internet that need help. It's the people themselves that are there. I can't help them there. I can only advise the people to come here so that I can help them more. And I want to help this community. It's what I feel I was born to do.

By the way, I like your quote in your signature. "No longer shall the measure of a hero be debated, for a hero is only one word, and the word is willing."

Secular Dragon,

You don't even want to know the other place. Please trust me on that.

There's a lot of good people there. Others can do as they wish; I'll remain a part of both communities as I have friends at both. Smile

Thanks; that was kind of the key for me in my superhero quest; just help out wherever you can and show initiative, always be the first one to raise your hand and volunteer. Smile

If there are good people there then see about bringing them over here. I'd rather just see people stop using that forum so it can shut down and all of these new people can stop being deceived and get the wrong idea about things.

And also I see what you mean, about the quote.

Sure thing.

I feel it's coolplace currently. History doesn't have much to do with it; people change, a lot. There's new members everyother day. The way I see it is it's just another camp, part of the same army. Holding grudges against camps with our friends in them and many we have never met isn't cool in my opinion. No disrespect at all to anyone. Both camps are cool.

Young Boots,

Even though we disagree I respect your opinion. I don't see it as a grudge against the people, so much as an ideological difference, and a strong lack of trust in the environment there and what it stands for. It's the idea, rather than the people - although there are a lot of two-faced passive-aggressive people there too, or people who think bullying is an acceptable form of heroism.

I don't agree - at all - in fact I don't just disagree with this part but rather see it as wrong - that they are part of the same (theoretical) army, so to speak. It isn't the fact that we seek to do heroic things that unites us (where-as if anything, it would be the diversity - as it used to be back in the day). Since the community as a whole doesn't agree on what is right or wrong. I do believe that the other place has set this community backwards and made it harder for this community to be a great place again like it used to be. It's hard to explain. The closest I can come to it is - you just had to see the way it used to be. I wish I could find the right words but there are no words for it.

There are things to agree upon, of course. But we cannot deny that while even though there are some similarities, we are very very very different, and there's definitely no denying that.

I do believe history matters. One thing that deeply saddens me is that anyone who joined this community in or after 2009, never truly got to see and experience this community in it's most interesting times. I can't explain it all in words. You really had to be there. But if you talk to anyone who was around in or before 2008, they would likely tell you the same thing. Except for a few troublemakers who hovered around back then. Haha.

I guess instead of spending as much time condemning and being the very thing I dislike about the other place, the only thing left for me to do is instead talk about why I think the Heroes Network is such a great place.

Here, we seek to become like a family amongst our friends and comrades here and offer encouragement to other superheroes. We want this to be a welcoming environment, but we don't accept villains. But we don't intend to condemn heroes for their mistakes - because nobody is perfect. But we want to have fun and offer resources to help other superheroes. We have chatroom meetings and also plan meet ups to help other superheroes get to know each other. We will have debates about what we all believe in, and we will correct each others mistakes, understanding that people don't care how much we know, until they know how much we care. We will teach and learn from each other and keep each other with news and have a good time doing it. Inside jokes & saving the world, you can't go wrong with that.
